About Fanfoon
Fanfoon is an iPhone and iPad app that helps children aged 2 to 8 learn Arabic letters, sounds and first words, with English alongside. A friendly fennec fox called Fanfoon guides them through short games and picture stories.
Who makes Fanfoon
Fanfoon is made by Z Technologies Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 16069930). The guides on this site are written by the Fanfoon team. Questions, ideas and problems all go to one inbox, support@fanfoon.com, and we usually reply within two working days.
What your child learns
- All 28 letters of the Arabic alphabet: how each one looks and sounds, and how to write it in the right direction, dots and all.
- The short vowels (harakat): fatha, kasra and damma.
- 60 first Arabic words, numbers 1 to 10 and colours.
- Good manners and everyday duas. These are optional, and a grown-up can turn them off.
- English letters and words too, for bilingual families.
There are more than 20 games and stories: tracing, popping the bubble with the right sound, matching pairs, vowel hats, building words tile by tile, counting, saying words out loud, and picture stories in Arabic and English with a new word on every page.
Which Arabic
Fanfoon teaches Modern Standard Arabic (fusha), with full vowel marks on every letter and word. It is the Arabic of school, books and Qur'an class across the Arab world, so it suits Arabic-speaking families and families who are new to Arabic. Grown-ups can run the app in Arabic or English; your child learns Arabic either way.
Fanfoon's voice
Everything in the app is spoken aloud, so children who can't read yet can play on their own. Arabic is spoken in Modern Standard Arabic, and English has its own voice. The voices are made with speech synthesis, not recorded by an actor. Every Arabic clip is checked with speech recognition before it goes into the app; if the words don't come back right, the clip is made again and the best take is kept. You can hear every letter on our Arabic alphabet page.
How Fanfoon is built
- A little each day. A short daily plan of a few games, a star for each, then "all done for today". No endless scrolling.
- No ads, ever. Fanfoon is in the App Store's Kids category. Purchases, settings and links outside the app sit behind a grown-up check.
- Private by design. Your child's name and progress stay on the device. Read our privacy policy.
- Away from the screen too. Our free worksheets cover tracing, letter shapes, numbers and English A to Z.
Fanfoon is free to download, with some games free to play. Fanfoon Plus, an optional in-app purchase, unlocks every game, story and letter.
